- SC 001 NURSING LEADERSHIP STYLES
OVERVIEW
Today, nursing management is viewed as a profession of its own, requiring specialised training, skills. As a fundamental component to drive a team's motivation, performance, and job satisfaction, effective nurse management is of the utmost importance to hospitals and health systems. - SC 004 DEVELOPING EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION IN HEALTH CARE SERVICES
OVERVIEW
In the workplace, motivation can be defined as an "individual's degree of willingness to exert and maintain an effort towards organisational goals". Motivation is closely linked to job satisfaction, which retains workers at their workplaces. Health worker retention reduces costs to the health system of having to recruit, hire, and orientate new workers. Motivation also minimises the likelihood of vacant posts. As many countries currently experience a shortage of qualified health workers, the loss of any health worker, especially doctors and nurses has a burden on any health system. Keeping health care workers satisfied and motivated enables the entire health system to operate effectively. Participants in this short course will understand the factors contributing to motivation and job satisfaction also include healthy career development. Having robust human resources mechanisms in place within a health care system can help to ensure that the right motivational factors are in place at adequate levels to keep health workers satisfied.LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the short course, the participants will be able to :1. Examine the link between motivation, job satisfaction and performance

- SC 027 VACCINE COLD CHAIN MANAGEMENT
OVERVIEW
The purpose of the vaccine “cold chain” is to maintain product quality from the time of manufacture until the point of administration by ensuring that vaccines are stored and transported within WHO-recommended temperature ranges.
The cold chain is a set of rules and procedures that ensures the proper storage and distribution of vaccines to health services from the national to the local level. It is interconnected with refrigeration equipment that allows vaccines to be stored at recommended temperatures to maintain their potency.
In the prevention and eradication of many common vaccine preventable diseases, proper vaccine storage and handling are important factors. Thus this module provides guidance for workers at health facility level on the management of vaccine cold chain to prevent storage and handling errors that results in revaccination of many patients and significant financial loss due to wasted vaccines.LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the short course, the participants will be able to:
1. Define the cold chain system
